Go, Mama, Go!

Sarah and I at our 5K
My friend, Sarah, and I have spent the last 10 weeks training to run a 5K race.  We followed the Couch to 5K training program which culminated in our Christmas Caper 5K race yesterday in downtown DC.  We did most of our training by running in circles around the tennis courts at a local middle school, locking our children in with us to play on the courts while we ran.  They loved to cheer us on, shouting, "Go, Mama, go!" When it got too cold, friends and family and an occasional babysitter would watch the kids.  It has been hard and I still wouldn't say that I'm a runner or that I enjoy it.  But I do enjoy the sense of accomplishment.  Our husbands ran this race with us and we are so grateful for their support and encouragement during this endeavor.  We also really appreciated the encouraging comments we received on our Facebook statuses.  It has been a great experience, one that I could not have done without my running partner, Sarah!  Thanks, Sarah!

Brian, Sarah, Dean and Julie after the race

Sarah and I ran together pretty much the whole time - do you see Brian scooting past me at the finish line?

Not great running conditions - it was snow and ice most of the way!

Wow you weren't kidding about the running conditions-I think that you should be able to take at least 3 minutes off your time for having to run in the snow and ice. LOVE the T-shirts-so cute. Congratulations on sticking with your training and for completing the 5K-Love-Mom
