There are lots of federal holidays that I never celebrated until I married a federal employee. This Veteran's Day has been a nice day since Dean spent it in port and home with us. Now I am more grateful for those men and women who have served our country to help bring us freedom that so many don't have. We have a lot of veterans in my family and the 2 that I remember today are my Granddaddy and my Uncle Jack who passed away this year. This was a photo from Granddaddy's funeral where you can see the reflection of the flag on the casket. It was very moving.
We took a baby gift over to our friend Becca's house - she's having a baby tomorrow. May she had a restful night tonight and smooth labor and delivery tomorrow of their baby boy or girl!
I spent my afternoon, preparing dinner (a new creation by the non-chef Julie, called Southwestern Enchildas when You have Kids) and trying out a recipe for truffles. The enhiladas turned out well, but Dean and Zachary had a special time of making Zack eat his dinner filled with tears, wailing and sobbing. I'm just not that tough, but he needs to learn to eat real food! He'd probably do better test-tasting those truffles!
Thanks, Katie B, for calling me back for a status report on your pregnancy. You're on the single-digit week countdown now and that goes by fast! I really enjoyed talking with ya and miss ya lots! Hang in there!

I want to hear all about those truffles, Julie! Were they good??
It's a good thing you didn't fly to Seattle with Nana, Jacob as it looks like you had a really fun day with your daddy. Zachary, I loved your swimming video and I was sorry to hear that dinner was so traumatic for you. Hang in there though because it worked for your brother. Love you all lots and lots-Nana
Julie- Are your truffles made from oreos by any chance? I have a great, easy recipie that is circulating my MOPS group right now... just on time for something special for Christmas.
Thanks for all of your comments- if we did ever have a visit, it sounds like neither of us would be surprised at what we'd see in the everyday routine of life:) Keep it up!
Love,
Laura
Truffles were not made from oreos (sounds interesting!), but still very easy (I am not Martha Stewart or Betty Crocker!). Jacob and I tasted them yesterday and we seemed to like it pretty well. In fact, I may have to go try one right now! Dean never gave me a verdict, so I'll have to see if I run into any willing guinea pigs around here!
