Friday's 5 in the Game of Life

The boys played The Game of Life yesterday which has led to some hilarious commentary.

Conversation between the boys (I didn't quite make the game connection right at first):
"If you don't go to college, you won't have a job."
"Yes, you can!  Just not as good."
"Mom??!! Is that true?"
Me: "Yes, you can get a job even if you don't go to college."
Boys: "Sometimes you go to college and don't get a job.  Right, Mom?"
"And sometimes you don't go to college and are just a plain old mom."
[Yep, sometimes you're just a plain old mom.]

I admit, I wasn't quite brave enough to explore where that path might lead in their minds.  Nor was I prepared to discuss the merits of motherhood with them while driving the minivan loaded up with our 5.  But mostly I was just chicken.  What is a "plain old mom"?  Is that a good thing?  Does it depend on who you ask?  Whose answer matters most?   At some point I'll have to explain why I chose the Practice of Family over Family Practice.  And I hope they'll be glad.  For now, I'll settle for being just a very well-educated mom

1) Jacob: During that game, "Mom!  I have 14 kids!  It takes drive 3 cars.  Some of my kids can drive now."  Jacob cracks me up.  Whenever he plays this game, he always has a lot of kids!  This kid loves big families!  I should probably warn his girlfriends in the future...

Another quotable from him: "Mom, we're going to be on time again today!"

And then there's this...
Thank you note from Jacob (and an add-on from Zach) for the bus driver.
Please note the "Without you I would almost never make it to school!"
This really is the truth!

2) Zachary: When we went to hear a children's entertainer yesterday, the musician handed out props. There weren't enough for all the kids there.  When Zachary got one, he immediately went over to a crying child and gave her his.  What a great kid!

3) Lydia: Our beach vacation can't come soon enough.  Everyday, "Mom, are we going to the beach on Friday?"  "Mom, can I bring this to the beach?"  "Do you want to go to the beach with us? [to everyone she sees...]" Every. Day.

She's ready for the beach!

"I can go to Zachary's school when I be 5."

4) Eliza: She's making a move for the "Only Child" status in our family. And, golly, she's cute!

She loves being Mama's Girl!

5) Anna: Still sleeping well.  In fact, she's snuggled up on my left arm now.  I'll add "experienced" to my "very well-educated."  And "blessed"...
Her Rock and Play "bed".  No crib time for her yet.  Why mess with it when it's working so well!?"
Tummy time appears to agree with her as well.
Actually, she can sleep anywhere.  Including a brick wall...
