5 by Friday: New Baby Edition

We welcomed our 5th child well before Friday - on Tuesday, in fact!  (Hence the post title "5 by Friday" instead of "5 on Friday".  Sometimes I'm so clever...)

For you birth story junkies: I went into labor in the middle of the night around 1:30 am, alerted the Nana's, and headed to the hospital with Dean. Nana Milne came over to take care of the kids and Nana Hopper joined us at the hospital. We were admitted around 3:30am with an epidural in place quickly at 5 cm. My OB broke my water, then things moved quickly. I delivered at 7:15am after about 15 minutes of pushing!

For the rest of you: our baby girl was born at 7:15am on Tuesday 5/21/13!

Anna Kate Milne
Born May 21, 2013 at 7:15
Weighing 8 lb, 6 oz
Measuring 21 inches

About her name:
Anna is a woman in the Bible who was present at the time that Jesus was presented at the temple at 8 days old.  (In my mind, it's also a version of "Anita" which is like "Juanita", my beloved grandmother who passed away in January.)

"There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.  She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.  Coming up to them [Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus] at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem." (Luke 2:36-38)

Kate is a name that we had loved and picked out for our very first pregnancy.  It had made it to the name discussions with each child since but never made the cut because we knew so many children with that name.  In choosing a middle name to go with "Anna", we thought "Kate" would be perfect!

Also, we plan to call her "Anna" as opposed to an "Anna Kate" double-name version.  However, you may also hear "Cinco" or "Allie Kate" from Lydia...

Finally, some pictures!

1) Cinco/Anna with her parents.  Note: When you call her Cinco for months on end, and don't decide on a name until an hour (or less) before delivery, it takes some time to get used to calling her "Anna"!  As Jacob said when he met her, "Her name is hard to pronounce."

When I started timing my contractions at home, I put on my makeup and earrings.  This is why...

We have a similar picture of Dean with Jacob - I just love this Daddy!
Dean is all-in when it comes to parenthood - even from the beginning!  He always changes those first diapers and gives the first baths.  The nurses were amazed that he insisted on giving Anna her bath in the newborn nursery!
2) Anna with her brothers.  Nana Hopper brought the boys up to meet Anna at the hospital.  They were so thrilled to meet their sweet sister.

Zachary when he met her said, "Oooohhhh, isn't she so cuuuute!"

3) Anna with her sisters.  Lydia has taken very well to Anna, even though she can't remember her name.  She's quite the Little Mama.  Eliza, on the other hand, isn't quite sure that Anna's appearance is a good thing...

This picture really is worth a thousand words...

And so is this one...
4) Anna with her grandparents.  Finally after numerous trips from SC, Nana Hopper was able to be present at Anna's birth!  Nana Milne came over to be with our other kiddos, for which we are so grateful!!  Pop Hopper drove up after she was born to get his snuggles in and Papa Milne left work early to meet her.  We are so blessed that our children have such devoted and loving grandparents!!

Pop Hopper drove straight to the hospital for his visit!
Papa and Nana Milne welcome grandbaby #9

Nana and Pop with the famous stork
and 5 of their 12 grandchildren
5) Anna with her friends and family.  We are so blessed to have such loving family and friends to support us. (And I'm thankful for current technology that helps to keep me connected with my family in SC!!  I can't wait for Anna to meet her SC aunts, uncles and cousins!)  We really do feel the love!  Also,I have to admit that one of the best parts about having a baby and being a part of an awesome group of women called MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) are the meals that they bring over!    Anna is 6 days old and we've had 6 meals brought over already (and so far only one is a MOPS connection)!  And probably won't for the next 3 weeks...  Love it.  Thanks to Cory, Sarah, Lacey and Nana Milne, Jean B., Miss Carol, and Mary A. for your meals!  And to the moms bringing us meals over the next few weeks!  It really is appreciated!

We have the best support system ever!

Anna with Great-Grandma Pruitt
I think Grandpa Jerry said that Anna makes 24 great-grandkids for him...
Cousin love!  Silas holding her with James and Elizabeth waiting their turns.
Now some love from Auntie Lacey!
One of the best Mother's Helpers, my 10 y/o niece Abigail
And some attention from Uncle Ryan...
One of my besties, Cory...
And my other bestie, Sarah!
If you've read all the way down to the end of this blog, thank you!
Thanks for caring so much that you want to be a part of our life!
Maybe I'll get my next blog post up on Friday.  Last week was a little busy...
With much joy,
Julie
