Dean's mom, Martina, just called to tell me that Grandpa Eckroth (her father), aka "Papa Joe," passed away this evening. Joseph Eckroth, Senior, was a dear and wonderful man loved by all of his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. It was apparently peaceful, although rather unexpected. Martina will be flying out to Seattle tomorrow morning to be with her family. The other hard part of this was having to email Dean (who is out to sea) this news which will be very upsetting to him. I hate to not be there with him when he hears this. But we have happy memories, especially from our trip to Seattle last year when Jacob was 10 months old and I was 7 months pregnant with Zack. Jacob especially loved it when Papa Joe would push him around in Grandma's wheelchair!

So many great memories ...
- trips to astroland park to ride on the swings and big slides
- eating circus peanuts
- driving down to the lake to feed the birds or out to the airport to watch the jets
- picking-up cherries at the old white house
- wood working projects
- stopping by Dairy Queen to get sundays in the baseball hat cups
- pinocole games
- camping trips in the old camper
- always telling stories and jokes
Grandpa Joe was everything you could ask for in a Gramps. Fun loving, kind, so proud and adoring of all his grandkids. He always offered up a warm hug and lap to sit on and share memories with. I am so sad that my boys will miss spending more time with him. He is loved and will surely be missed.

Thank you, Julie, for your heart felt remembrances of Dad. Dean, I wish that I could put my arms around you and cry a bit with you as we mourn Grandpa's death. He was so VERY proud of you and loved your family as if they lived right next door. I will take your "great memories" with me to Seattle and share them with the family. Love all four of you with all my heart-Mom/Nana
Praising God for blogs today as they are the best way for us to feel close right now in the midst of this time. Dean, your memories were on the tip ofmy tongue! Such good times we had.
I love you all.
Jules,
Please tell Dean, Lacey, Martina, Bill, and all of the Milne/Eckroth family that my thoughts and prayers are with them.
Love you,
Sara
